Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public talker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency, a web site with video content and blogs discussing the depictions of females in popular culture. Feminist Frequency an online platform dedicated to education, which examines female roles in pop culture, is managed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to break down the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she is also working to raise issues related specifically to the harassment of women and the other minorities of the Internet environment. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in Political and Social Thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is popular and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Attracted to issues related to gender, feminism and identity from an early age she launched her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was she was still at University. She was launching a series of videos on the web that looked at female representation in video games and was the target of harassment online. However the attack could not deter her instead it only bolstered her resolve as a feminist critic of media. Her work has earned her numerous awards to recognize her notable contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and founded Feminist Frequency which is an non-profit educational organization that studies women's representations in popular culture.
